MARTHA RIEGER

Martha Rieger is a sculptor and a ceramic artist.
The sculptures and installations are based on both traditional handcrafts that Rieger studied over her years of working with local artisans in Jingdezhen, China, and her modern visual art language and style. This stylistic hybridization comes through in her work as contemporary arena for current symbols and narratives that interested her.

The most apparent forms in Rieger's artistic oeuvre for the last few years have been the shapes of the Egg and the Bubble. Their unusual, fragile and temporary forms, that are always on the edge of breaking down or cracking open, create a tension on which she embody her own private world, by hand-drawing on them, or by using ready-made motives in an unordinary, rearranging context.
